Mappilai Samba Rice

Mappillai Samba (Bridegroom’s Rice) is one of the most celebrated traditional red rice varieties of Tamil Nadu. Its name originates from a folk tradition where a suitor had to lift a heavy rock (Ilavatta Kal) to prove his strength; this rice was fed to him to provide the necessary power and stamina.
